Pulp Art

Anyone that knows me or my work knows I am obsessed with all things Polaroid. One of the first contemporary “Polaroid Artist” I came across when researching information on Polaroid cameras was Neil Krug and his Pulp Art Book. Krug photographs his model wife, Joni Harbeck, with expired Polaroid film. I haven’t been able to find out what type of camera or film her uses yet, but I’m dying to know! I’m still trying to figure out how he created his multiple exposure pictures, but my best guess would be he shoots multiple pictures and composes them in photoshop, since they don’t look like double exposures. Whatever he’s doing they’re beautiful (probably doesn’t hurt that his wife is a model either).

He has about 12 different series right now, each with it’s on cinematic feel. My favorite so far is Jackie, which he is turning into a film of photographs.

“The struggles and demise of a wealthy 1950’s housewife make up the belly of this Jackie series. Fearing and raging the trap of motherhood, Jackie murders her husband while on a cocaine binge after she learns of her pregnancy. Life continues on in a downward spiral of drug abuse, child rearing, and funerals. This series attacks the unfair pressure laid upon women in a society where they have no choices, no options, and only duty.”
